When I got this in the 70s' it elevated my musical knowledge to a high level. It's not your typical music book but you can get so much out of it if you really give it a try. This book is an awesome piece of work by the author meant to be with you to check in on and open any page and come away having learned something.So glad I was able to get anew copy.

I’ve been playing informally for about 10 years now (no bands, very few gigs, sit-ins here and there, mostly personal enjoyment) so I’m not a “serious” player by any stretch of the imagination. However I have a decent understanding of the basics and this guide is the perfect fit for me. Very clear explanations and diagrams and an absolute powerhouse of information. Very excited to see where my playing goes as I’m working through it - it’s given me the push I needed to really grow in skill set and enjoyment.

For me it would have been greatly improved If what seem to be handwritten chord charts were more legible and at least 50% larger for my eyes. (Normal Eyes ) I also found the language in some portion of the book a bit on the abstruse/obstruse and dense side for me. Still I love the title and look of the book which still holds me hopeful and willing to struggle with its imperfections. I would not however recommend it to those who do not have a very sure footing with their theory, or beginners who can be discourage by the sense of insurmountable challenge.

There is a reason that this book has been reprinted; the information and the step by step process is great. I haven't gotten all the way through it yet, but I understand how things fit together in a way that I didn't before. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that really wants to understand how chords work and how to use alternatives to for each chord progression.

Not much to add to the myriad of comments, except maybe don't go cover to cover like I did. It was like drinking from a fire hose. It's a great chord reference book!

Excellent book! It will take a lot of time to get all of this stuff under your fingers but it has helped me already with understanding the fret board better and how chords work, in addition I have learned a lot of cool chords I can use when composing stuff. The possibilities are endless! Lots of chord progressions. Just pick out the stuff that fits your needs. Some of the chords are impossible to play (for me anyway) due to the large stretches involved.

The first and last chord theory book you will ever need. If you're a serious musician you owe it to yourself to have this reference and teaching book in your collection.

To use this book the reader almost has to have an old 8086/8088 cpu computer to use the instruction set that this book uses to program drivers in DOS. I found an 8086 emulator on the internet but it doesn't accommodate Interrupt 17 for printer services, which the book uses for a whole chapter on creating printer drivers. The other option is to use TASM instead of MASM, but the book is all written in MASM. The book is more like a relic novelty than a learning tool because the technology to use it is all outdated. There are a few 8086/8088 pc's on ebay but they are all pretty pricey if they even work at all. TASM and MASM both call on the computer's BIOS to execute commands, so if an emulator doesn't have a BIOS it is handicapped and limited.

This is an excellent book. Approaching device drivers via DOS is probably the best method to understanding device drivers in general. As to previous comments that the examples were written in assembly rather than C, this is a strength, not a weakness. Many drivers during the heyday of DOS were written in assembly. And while assembly is. admittedly, a difficult language in which to program, it does force you to stick your head into the hardware and keep it there (which is what device drivers are all about).The only negative comment is that the book cannot be viewed on the Amazon website, particularly the table of contents and an excerpt.

This book covers most aspects of MS-DOS drivers.Actually, after reading the book i have now understood the structure of MS-DOS, how MS-DOS treats drivers and the differences between the different versions of MS-DOS.I bought that book due to a project of a course on my university.I never compiled the actual driver i had to(a serial driver) but instead i wrote only the report (how the driver should be implemented and an assembly code, which i never compiled).So, this review covers only the theoretical view of the book, which i can reassure you that it is beyond your expectations.It is also clear that the author of the book (Mr Lai) is not a scientist, but instead he is a very experienced and professional programmer, a real engineer who can understand anyone which, in fact, makes reading easier.Probably the book is absolute nowadays but anyone who want to learn who device drivers work in MS-DOS i fully recommend it(actually i haven't found any other book with the same topic).

Everybody I spoke to was extremely helpful and things promised were done. The book arrived as described and I've been happily reading it since!

If you are even reading this review, it is probably because you, for one reason or another, need to write an MS-DOS device driver. I was in the same boat, and this book saved me.I could not have done it without it. So little material remains about DOS device drivers.This book provides detailed information on writting both character and block device drivers. Many examples are provided as this book guides you toward the development of more complex drivers.Most of this book assumes that your are knowledgable in Assembly Language programming. However, the most useful section for me was a framework for developing device drivers in C.

This book just for beginers. Also, there is lot of assembly example instead of C language.
