Severely outdated, not worth the money.

Good description and explanation of different aspects of prosthetics and orthotics.

I really like this book, it is short but not to short and gives you what you need to know. I think it will be a great reference book when I get into practice.

I like this book as it is a great introduction to the sciences of orthotics & prosthetics (O&P). It is a fairly easy read yet covers most essential elements of O&P devices and applications in rehabilitation. Chapter 2 is a very useful and succinct introduction to biomechanics as it relates to O&P. I use this text as required readings for DPT and PTA classes that I teach and encourage other professors interested in O&P sciences to use it as a reference. I feel that it covers most of the foundational concepts of O&P and it seems to help provide students with the practical knowledge of what they will need in practice.O&P students may find the case study approach of the text useful, but it is not as in-depth as texts like Orthotics and Prosthetics in Rehabilitation, 2e which is an excellent text.Practicing ortho-prosthetists will appreciate the section on "Teaching Prosthetic Control" in chapter 7. This makes a good reference for your PT colleagues.Overall a good book, well illustrated, authors have command of the subject material, and the editors only missed two instances of the dreaded so-called word "componentry". But then...I call it O&P and not P&O.

I only have one disagreement with one of the sections (see below).It is a glossy 8-1/2" x 11" book with very clear color photos of everything. I believe it is also available in a lay-flat spiral bound version. The topics covered includethe following:-Types of leather-Cutting leather-Tool, glues, lacing &thread-Dyes, finishes, waxes, conditioners-Laying out designs & using patterns for carving-Carving the design and stamping designs-Setting snaps and rivets-Stitching, sewing, lacing-Going through all the techniques again on two projects:-1. A fancy dyed belt with stamped design and silver conchos2. A fancy case for business cards with stamped design and stitchingA quibble: I do have have one disagreement with the book on the the section about using neatsfoot oil for un-dyed leather projects. For new un-dyed leather, neatsfoot oil is not the best leather conditioner or preservative. The author shows dipping a nice un-dyed holster in a bucket of neatsfoot oil. On anything but very dry, thick leather, this can cause a limp, oily-looking, darkened leathercraft project. I have seen the appearance of some beautiful new leather projects ruined this way. And any adhesive bond or non-synthetic thread stitching you have on the item may come apart or loosen over time due to the absorbed neatsfoot oil.Today there are much better leather conditioners and preservatives that will allow un-dyed leather to stay much firmer than with neatsfoot oil and protect it from moisture and drying. (Many contain beeswax, which was a traditional leather preservative.) Search on Amazon for "leather conditioner" or "leather preservative" and read the reviews. Follow the instructions carefully. Only apply it lightly and try on a test scrap first to see the effect on color and any dye you have used. Keep any leather coatings off the stitching and away from any adhesive seams to not dissolve or loosen those. Prior to reading this book my knowledge of leathercraft was just was I did as a Boy Scout - so basically non-existent.After reading this book I feel I'd be able to complete tasks with a better understanding of the processes used to create quality looking leather projects. This book really is composed of three parts:1) Tools - it gives a paragraph or two explanation of many of the tool you may need while dabbling in this hobby/art.2) Method - This section takes you somewhat step by step through the various ways to turn a piece of leather into a functional work of art. It includes guides on staining, dying, stitching, lacing, and most importantly tooling (adding design using stamps and custom patterns)3) Execution - This section puts part 1 & 2 into practice. It gives a step by step tutorial on building a card case, and a belt. The author did a great job on this section giving a brief overview of the step without fully repeating repeating the method, although referencing the page to visit if you need additional help.Overall this book is highly recommended by me. It's approximately 200 pages, but with the great illustrations and step by step guides you can easily finish this in an evening and truly get a nice beginners level knowledge on this craft. If you were like me, wanting to see all that was involved with this craft before buying the tools, you can't go wrong picking up this book first.For reference - I purchased the kindle version and read this on my iPad Mini. In the past I've had issues with reference books with lots of illustration not being formatted well enough to make the book usable as an ebook. This book was formatted exceptionally well and I have 0 regrets about buying the eBook vs the spiral or paperback.

I've had experience tooling leather, but not in a lot of years. Recently my son took up an interest in it, so I pulled out all my old books and tools. Then I got this book (Kindle edition). After going through it, it was a great refresher for me in exactly what it says- leather tooling basics. It's also a good book for someone just beginning like my son.It covers picking the right leather for your project. It describes the tools and gives a good run down of the essential tools for leather tooling. It also describes the various finishing products like oils, stains and waxes.Then the basic techniques, how to case (moisten) the leather correctly for tooling. How to stain, dye or paint your leather. How to set rivets and use some of the hardware available for leather workers. It also explains beveling the edges, how to neatly finish edges and make your finished projects water resistant. This is all done with a lot of photographs and good explanations that cover why as well how to use the techniques. Then there are a few simple projects that use those skills.I'm very happy with this book.

The photos in this book let me see what other books were trying to explain and now both books made sense. This is definitely the book for some one just starting in leather crafting.

Unlike other books about Basquiat, this story, Widow Basqiat, is about Suzanne Mallouk and her stormy relationship with the young artist. This is a sparely written, almost poetic view of a relationship between two people, one of which was deemed a talented artist, and the other was known as his muse. This book also captures the underground culture of New York in the 1980s with vivid scenes of the drugs, parties, creative energy and lives lived on the edge.This story is a harrowing story of a young girl who leaves an abusive household to go live in New York where she meets Jean-Michel and endures the highs and lows of living with an artist and drug addict. At times, Jean-Michel can't live with Suzanne but can't live without her. Jean-Michel comes across as childlike at times, a raving madman at others, but all in all, the driving force of his life was his art. He would leave her for days at a time and take up with other people and he always had a steady supply of drugs which he shared profusely with her.There are other colorful characters in this book, as well as the notoriously famous, such as Madonna and Andy Warhol who also had close relationships with Basquiat. Suzanne shows a great strength in character in this sparse book, but ultimately this a sad tale of her relationship with a talented and famous black artist who found fame and notoriety far beyond his days of a SOMA street artist.

I bought this book for my husband, and he really enjoyed it. At first, the unusual writing style bothered him, but by 50 pages in, he'd become used to it. He has always been a huge fan of Basquiat's art, but knew little about him as a person. So, he was very disturbed by many of the revelations in this book about Basquiat's true character. For a man who is very respectful of women, the book was almost too much. But ultimately, he came out with a greater understanding of the artist and the art. My husband is a successful artist, so it meant a lot to him to see how Basquiat operated during his depressingly short life.I have not read the book, because honestly the writing style puts me off also. But for a unique look into the artist's tragic life, this book is priceless. And Suzanne's story is one of a woman who really beat the odds. Overall, this book comes highly recommended by Mr. Willis.

It's been a while since I picked up a book I couldn't put down. This was definitely one of them. It's short, but leaves you with a feeling as if you were there. You know those books that make you feel like you are in a cloud of something else for a short while? The ones that leave you thinking about things when you are done with them? This is one of those. I could imagine myself right along side. it is very well written and a joy to read. I loved it and so did my daughter.

One of the best books that I have ever read beautifully written poetic will be looking for more from this author! Basquiats girlfriend is a very interesting and had a historically unique perspective

After viewing the Jean-Michel Basquiat's documentary film, The Radiant Child and viewing the motion picture based on his life, Basquiat I became instantly drawn to Basquiat's life story and his work. I bought this book for more insight on the man and the artist. This book is a quick read and it really does a great job in providing snapshots into the life of one of the greatest, most innovative visual artists to ever live. Whether you are conducting research on Basquiat or just want to know more about him, this book is a must-read. It is kooky, cerebral, tragic, melancholy, funny, and most of all poignant.

I bought this for my husband who likes all things Basquiat and he loved it, saying it gave more insight into his life. It's not a large book to read, and its a simple format, so if you liked Basquiat you'll enjoy this book.

Jean-Michel Basquait speaking Spanish is inspiring more than anything. I'd like to wake up an artist similar to him and Andy. I'll recommend this book to go getters in industry with funny business. This book got helluv a rating from me. Time to read through what I skipped. It's nothing bad with skimming when your eager to read.

It really doesn' go into any depth but it gives a sketchy pictureof the artist and his "wife". It's a quick and easy read. Anyway, the interesting party in this relationship is the so called widow who managed to get out of the inferno of drugs and loveless relationships , study and become her own independent personality. I would like to read more about this obviously very inteligent woman.

Loved this little book. Beautifully written and provided a great image of Basquiat's life through his girlfriend's experience. I became a huge fan of him after reading this.Jennifer Clement, a poet, writes beautiful, poetic prose.

I had been taught the MLA format since high school were it was ingrained in my brain to the point where it became second nature. This continued in college where MLA was expected. However I returned to college in a different state in a different part of the country (1600 miles away) and now here comes P.I.T.A APA. She is a horrible wench, the girl is school who everyone hates because she is SO PARTICULAR about everything and has to have her way. Her way or the highway. I hate APA--but I love this book! I was tired of getting docked 1/2 or even 1 point for not getting the format right and I am sorry but those Cite-generation websites don't work with college professors! I considered buying the professional APA manual but on a college budget I bought APA: The Easy Way instead. It was the best investment in a book I have ever made. Now I don't get knocked points because I am FINALLY getting the format right! This book is so easy to understand and they guide you step-by-step with relevant examples for each type of resource. Trying to get MLA out of my head was a struggle, but this book saved me by teaching me a new way to cite my resources and prevent me from being accused of plagiarism. If you struggle with APA (and even if you don't) buy this book and save your sanity (and points on your homework) you won't regret it!

I teach online psychology courses for a large for-profit university. I teach classes at all levels from lower division undergraduate to doctoral level students. I recommend this book to my undergraduate students because they are pretty much clueless about APA formatting (understandably), which is required in all papers. Ideally it would be nice if they actually used the APA publication manual but there is almost no chance of that. This is an accurate and easy to use tool for the neophyte academic writer. I use it myself for quick reference.I would not recommend this for graduate students because there is more to the APA writing style than simple formatting. At the graduate level, the university requires the use of the publication manual.

This book is a concentrated synopsis of how to format an APA paper correctly. I have referred to it countless times, and the section on formatting for Word (older and newer versions) is worth the price of the book alone! Yes, for more in-depth information the APA Manual is great, but it is cumbersome. For quick reference, this booklet is amazing and has saved my 3am sanity more than once. You won't regret buying this, even with APA information out there on the internet. This booklet puts all of the essentials in one place. Highly recommended for undergrads and grad students alike.

This books is a joke and a rip off of your money. The printing is almost as if the ink was running out and faint on many pages. Towards the last half many pages are crooked in the printing and several have portions where part of the information is cut off. Then there are the pages that are stuck together and the binding that basically ripped off as soon as I opened the book all of the way. Opened it maybe 10 minutes ago and I’m not the kind of person who rolls the cover back.

I purchased this book as well as the full APA manual. I’ve gotten a lot of use out of this book while writing my papers for school because it’s very concise and easy to read. The full APA manual is a bit wordy and has lots of information, so it’s been useful to have a quick guide for references and in-text citations. However, I will say that I have needed to break out the APA manual a few times to for more in-depth explanations, so I do recommend buying both for other students that will be using APA style frequently.

If you do not want to purchase the full APA Manual, this is an ideal alternative. This book is short and compact with information. Everything you need to know is in this book along with examples of how to write in APA. Would definitely recommend if you do not want to purchase the actual manual and want to save a few dollars.

This is a must have if you don't want to get nick off for points when your doing your references or citations. After a few times you will get the hang of it, but for now-have this handy!! A pictorial celebration of the world-famous sister ships: the Olympic-class liners   A maritime expert tells the story of the sister ships using previously unseen pictures, passenger diaries, and deck plans, illustrating Olympic's successful career; the premature ends of her two unfortunate sisters; and the experiences of those onboard. Designed for passenger comfort, they were intended to provide luxurious surroundings and safe, reliable service rather than record-breaking speed. Ironically, fate decreed that only Olympic would ever complete a single commercial voyage and she went on to serve for a quarter of a century in peace and war. Titanic's name would become infamous after she sank on her maiden voyage. The third sister, Britannic, saw a brief and commendable career as a hospital ship during World War I, sinking in the Aegean Sea in 1916.
